Raising athletic horses in optimal conditions is the aim of Tailwind Racing. Foals are either California or Kentucky bred with the Cal-Bred racing market in mind. Stakes horses are the goal.
Under the direction and active management of Ronna Hoffman, President, Tailwind Racing, Inc. has experienced significant growth with a long-term commitment to excellence. In business since 1990, Tailwind Racing began with three horses, boarding and racing in the Bay Area of California. In 1998, as the number of horses grew to nearly twenty five, it seemed practical to own our own farm; it would allow us to have greater control over the entire racing operation. With that goal in mind, we purchased a 62 acre property, formerly a dressage horse stable, and converted it to a thoroughbred race horse operation. The entire program of Tailwind Farm has been designed to raise a thoroughbred race horse for the Southern California tracks (there is just enough up and down hill to help develop a strong hindquarter).
Our mares and foals graze and develope at this high altitude facility. Our mares are shipped to California or Kentucky for foaling and breeding.
Our yearlings are trail ridden. For a short time our two year-olds train on their own on=site track. The two year-olds eventually go to Southern California to prepare to race.
Sometimes our lay-ups return to the farm for TLC where we can carefully monitor their healing in comfortable familiar surroundings.
We continue to upgrade our breeding stock and try to give our horses finished with racing a retirement home.
