Located at 3400 feet elevation, 10 miles NW of Bend, Oregon and fifteen minutes from the Redmond airport near Tumalo, Tailwind Farm has been conceived to develop the thoroughbred race horse to its full breeding potential. Like Federico Tesio, we believe in clean air and high altitude. We have a desert climate and irrigated Kentucky blue grass pastures atop a calcium rich soil. These conditions combine to create an ideal growing climate for the horses.
All pastures are fenced with V Mesh, have loafing sheds, shade protection and state of the art Nelson waterers. There is a breaking pen and indoor facilities for the horses in the winter. All pastures are separated for quarantine purposes. An indoor sprinkled dressage arena, 6 miles of galloping paths, ½ mile training track and an electronic Euro-walker help to create an efficient environment.
An important aspect to our farm is the location of Bend Equine Medical Center, 10 minutes away. It is among the most prominent equine veterinary facilities in Oregon.
Javier Lopez is our ranch manager. He is the one who oversees the care and initial conditioning of our horses. From the arrival of mares and their foals, to the breaking and conditioning of our yearlings and two year olds, his hard work and dedication make the difference for our future athletes. His wife Maria is a top assistant.
