Note: HLW is actively investigating the family -- he has managed to trace some of the side branches of the family back to before 1400. He says some of the families involved belonged to some of the high noble families in Norway in the Middle Ages. Two of the families were originally from Denmark. Some of the notable ancestors are given below:
The generations of great-grandparents are given with respect to the eldest Weckhorsts alive now-- that is the grandchildren of Gustav Adolph Frederick Weckhorst (and grandchildren of his brother, Jens Arbo Weckhorst). Adjust the number of greats as appropriate for your own generation. Summarizing, an 11th great-grandparent of Gustav's grandson, Gus Weckhost (son of Carl Weckhorst), would be a 12th great-grandparent to Gus's children, etc.
| Among the persons found were the 11th Great-grandfather Tord Benkestok (who was born before 1425). His son was Trond Tordson Benkestok and the Benkestok family belonged to one of the oldest noble families in Norway and was one of the few noble families in Norway which outlived the middle age. From The National Registry in Oslo, HLW found 12th Great-grandfather Lieutenant-Colonel Marcus Bernhoft, who was appointed commanding officer of the army group in Central Norway byking Christian III in 1530 12th great-grandfather!. An 18th Great-grandfather was Jon Ragnvaldson Smor who is noted as early as 1280. | ![]() 7th Great-grandfather Anders Olsen Bruse (1614-1657) who was dean in Meldalen deanery and built the church in Meldalen. In the church exists this epitafim (painting of him and his family). |
4th Great-grandfather Christian Wilberg Schulze built a rectory in Rendalen, however, 7th Great-grandfather Anders Olsen Bruse (1614-1657) who was dean in Meldalen deanery built the church in Meldalen. He also started mining operations several places and there is much more to find out about him. He was married to Elen Olsdatter Johnsen Meldal. Her grandfather, also a dean, was a 9th Great-grandfather Jens Andersen Bull (1550 - 1610). It is said he came from Denmark and should have been of English nobility, possibly did they come over to Denmark with king Knut the great. Jens Andersen Bull, or his father had to renounced the peerage for some reasons.
5th-great-grandfather Nils Mortensen Lund wrote a letter in 1792 of which a copy is still retained by the family. November 11th, 1792 The letter addresses, among others, another of our 5th-great-grandfathers, Jens Willatsen Bing. It is in very nice handwriting in old blackletters. But we cannot read it, however, HLW also has a transcription to Roman letters but nothing else of the original text is changed. And 12xgreatgrandfather Colonel Lieutenant Marcus Bernhoft was given the command of the army forces in Central Norway by King Christian III about 1530.
The various families that fill in the Weckhorst Family Portrait include The Schulze Family, The Bing Family, The Brand Family, The Bruse Family, The Bull Family, and The Green Family (also called The Ramus Family). Some of these family's members are mentioned above. HLW is teasing us with this wonderful information and promises to send it in a more assembled form when he has a chance (he is very busy).
