Footnotes:

  1. Holsten was an independent duchy since early middle age, but was surrendered to Germany in 1866.
  2. Her last name, Botlefsen, is obviously of Danish origin.
  3. Gevorbne = enlisted (professional soldiers).
  4. His name was entered in an old pedigree from about 1890, made by the well-known Norwegian genealogist Delgobe, however, the name was too indistinct to be read.
  5. His family may be traced back to Moelln, Lauenburg in Germany, in 1540.
  6. Schleswig as an independent duchy since early middle age, however in 1866 surrendered to Germany. After World War I, the Northern part of Schleswig was transfered to Denmark after a referendum.
  7. Fredrikstad is a town 141 miles south of Oslo, about 35 000 inhabitants. The town was founded September 12th, 1567, - and as a town within the town a fortress was established there in 1663, which still exist. It is called "Gamlebyen" (the Old Town). It is said to be the among Europe's best preserved fortified towns from those times. Neither will some family history hurt: Lieutenant Johan Friedrich Weckhorst, who served in the Danish/Norwegian artillery, was posted to the Artillery Corps in Fredrikstad May 17th 1793. His three sons followed their father to Norway (Johan Friedrich was then a widower). The Garrison Engineer of the fortress, the infantry captain Friedrich Christian Bing became later the father-in-law of Johan Friedrichs youngest son, Gustav Adolph; i.e. he was the father of Jusine Marie Bing. All the children of Jusine and Gustav Adolph was born in Fredrikstad. The Bings' house still exist in the Old Town of Fredrikstad.
  8. The last name "Clu" is difficult to read in the old pediegree, and I've not been able to get any verifications. The Norwegian rector and linguist J. Fritzner gave this remark: "An old Danish name."
  9. "Soennenfjeldske Infantry Regiment" is a former Infantry regiment in Southern Norway.
  10. Some sources say he died in Skien, Norway.
  11. "Nordenfjeldske Infantry Regiment" is a former Infantry regiment in Central Norway.
  12. "stallmester" : A military assignment; the officer who was the superintendent of the stables.
  13. With Friderich Christian Bing we can follow various branches of the family: Brandt, Bruse, Bull, Kuhlman, Lund and Ramus among others.
