Eleanor, born in Ireland (I don't know where) was born in about 1779. Some of her children were Ellen, born in Delaware around 1803, Eliza, born in Delaware around 1818, and James, born in Delaware - Newark, I believe, around 1805. Eleanor was the grandmother of Parker Whiitlesey Mc Manus, my great grandfather, born in Newark, Del. in 1842. His father, James, was married to Sarah Whittlesey, from Mystic Connecticut on March 10, 1831 - on Long island. I believe they had 3 sons and 4 daughters. James brought his wife Sarah and Parker and daughter Frances, to Davenport, Iowa on March 10, 1844. Parker married Flora Meek, from Lexington, Missouri. in 1876 and they had 4 children, Parker, William, James and Florence Eleanor, my ancestor. I want to find the maiden name of Eleanor, her husband's name, where they were born and lived in Ireland and any more information anyone might have, Does anyone recognize these names and/or have any more information? --janfwalker@aol.com

They are buried in the wildcat creek district of Lancaster county at Oak Hill Baptist Church. This is at the border of Chesterfield County and north of Taxahaw. I have been to J.Hughs grave at Taxahaw as well. I don't know if this will help or not, but Dec of 1836 is so very close to 1837. Note: Samuel F. is the brother of U. A. both sons of Samuel and Jane. --blockhauler@mac.com
Looking for more info about Philip McManus, born August 1829 in County Cavan and his father, also Philip McManus (born 1804), and Rosannah (Foley) McManus. The younger Philip immigrated to Indiana, USA, in 1856. He had two sisters, Rosa (born 1840 in County Fermanagh) and Kathryn. Rosa also immigrated to Indiana in 1856. She married John Wilson. It would be nice to make the connection to the older Philip McManus (b1804) and Rosannah (Foley) McManus, and any other family or ancestors they had in Ireland. So, I wonder if your records include any marriage or birth records (or other records) from the townlands or parishes in County Cavan and County Fermanagh that might help. The family was Roman Catholic. --patm.zambia05@gmail.com

Looking for McManus family who were living in 1905 at 1688 Harvard Street, Cleveland, Ohio. They were Mary Kate, Thomas and Owen McManus. Mentioned in a letter at that time was also Anne McManus and Gordon Barber. Grandmother Ella McManus was in California at that time. Could Ella also have been Helen? or Ellen? It appears that Owen in 1930 census was still living in Cleveland Ohio and at East 116th Street and was a retired railroad foreman. In later years, a niece of Elizabeth McManus (who I believe was Mrs. F.A. Damon) lived at 2115 Tate Ave, in Cleveland and had a niece Anne who came to America perhaps in the 1950s and visited our family in California. Last contact was 1959, a Chrsitmas card from "Aunt Elizabeth" (Mrs. F.A. Damon). Anne is believed to have gone back to Ireland and married. My grandfather was Robert McManus. His mother was Mozell Richardson McManus. His father was Thomas McManus. Thomas McManus sat his little boys down under a shade tree and told them he would not be going to OK with them. He had a nice horse and buggy.( Robert, Tom, Frank and Nora were the little boys, and a baby was born on the trip to OK and died) Uncle Tom was old, but he said they traveled with a group of Bushyhead Indians. (it was the Trail of Tears, led by Bushyhead). They had a mule stole, and tracked it down to Memphis. Richard Angus McClellan pulled a gun on the guy and got the mule back. He said, "Ding dong, I was glad he didn't put up a fight, this ole gun would have fell apart."
They wound up coming into Durant, OK. It was Choctaw land, so they bought land in Mayesville, OK. Mozell Richardson McManus married Richard Angus McClellan and had a whole new family. She had like 12 children in all. She had long black hair. When she sat in a chair and brushed it, it coiled up on the floor. She had two dresses. She would wash one and wear one. Would say, "I gotta rise awashin." she swept the yard every day, and made my mother Muriel McManus Daniels and her siser Letha wear sticks tied on their backs to keep them straight. She sewed floursack bloomers for Uncle Tom's little girls. Her parents died named Richardson, so she and a twin went to live on an uncle's plantation. He was a military man and an Indian Land agent. Must have been a pretty well off family, because she had a mouth full of gold teeth.
Mozell was born in Swainsboro, GA. Emanuel Co. Her mother was a Faircloth. I have the list of her siblings. (Samuel Richardson and Levina Faircloth) had like 16 kids.
Would like to know what happened to Thomas McManus??? I posted old letters on my site: http://www.rotharmy.net.Go in old letters and scroll way down and find "My mother Muriel Daniels Letters". She tells a lot of geneology about Mozell, and names her children.
Grandfather Robert McManus said Mozell, his mother cut the tail off his father's long coat and told him that he and his family was no better than cows. They all laid down to sleep together. (Uncle Tom said Robert didn't belong to McManus, because he was the second child and was named after McManus. I asked who was his father, and he said he thought the preacher was. I'd like to know too, who was his father. And someone should know what happened to McManus.
--Katydidinnc@yahoo.comI am searching for the parents of my gg grandmother Rutha (ie) McManus (McMinis) Craft. Rutha was born in Tennessee in 1817 - possibly Monroe County. She was a weaver by trade. She married Elias Craft in 1835 in Morgan County, Alabama. They had several children. Their two son's names were John Jasper and Joseph. Both sons died in the Civil War.
Rutha may have possibly had siblings by the name of Joseph and Mary Ann. Those two siblings married Alford siblings in the mid 40s in Morgan County, Alabama. They later moved to Pike Co., Arkansas. Their last names was McMenis.
I found a Hannah McManness on the 1830 Monroe County, TN census. Elias and Rutha had a daughter named Hannah. Hannah has a young female the age Rutha would have been in 1830 in her household. I could never find Hannah again on any other census. Ancestry has Hannah's surname as McManners, but I have looked at the census and it looks like McManness to me.
Family lore has it that Rutha was a percentage of Cherokee. By 1830, Rutha's family could have been living as white people.
--dsteele07 @windstream.netI am looking for a Thomas McManus who would have been in Alabama around 1897 or earlier. In 1898 he was with Martha Goff Martin. they had a daughter named Lillian May born 13 Un 1898 in Birmingham, Jefferson, Alabama. No marriage license had been found for for Thomas McManus and Mary Martha Goff Martin -- Goff is maiden name. Martin was previous husband name.
I am looking for any info, especially about Mary Martha.

--carver20@alltel.netBernard Francis McManus, was born 2 Dec. 1880 in Glasgow. Orphaned by age 3, he was raised by the Bonar (Bonner?) family in Lennoxtown. In 1906 he married Margaret Hamil of Motherwell, who bore two children, Bernard Joseph and Mary Jane in 1907 and 1909. By 1910 the marriage had run aground. Margaret took the children and fled to the U.S. BFMcM was never heard from again. Scottish records do not record his death. Neither do U.S. census or Social Security records. Perhaps he was conscripted in 1914/1918 when he would have been 34/38 years old and died in World War I. But, military records do not find his death. If he emigrated to Canada, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia or Australia, my search thus far has failed to find him. He was a coal miner by trade and a rakehell by reputation. What happened to this man?

When I was very little, I lived in San Jose California - 1950's to l960's. My best friends and neighbors were Charles and Ada McManus. He worked for the railroad -- Southern Pacific, and she was from Austria. They had one son, Herbert, who died via a bicycle accident on the Golden Gate Bridge. In the fifties, they were already middle-aged, and then later on, I lost contact with them. So I have no idea of when they died. I do know that they moved to Aptos, or Santa Cruz, or thereabouts. That must have been in the 70's or 80's. They were the most wonderful people, and I'm not sure how or why I lost contact with them -- except that I was a stupid young kid.
Perhaps you might know something about them -- when they died, where they are buried.

pamjam@koyote.comHerbert Francis McManus was born Sept.29,1902 in Toledo, Ohio presumably at the St.Vincent Orphan Asylum. The only records we can find is his baptism record written in an old book in St.Frances Desales Catholic Church, Toledo, Ohio. This was the church for (later renamed to) St Anthony Villa Orphanage. We know that (according to the page) He was illegitamite. His Mother was listed on the page as Agnes McManus. No Father listed. He was at St Anthony's until he was 12 years old then placed in a foster home until he reached the legal age or he left. The family name of the foster family was Jacobs. Dont know the first name but they went to St Ignatius Church in what was then known as Mominee Town, Jerusalem Twp. Ohio. It is now Oregon, Ohio. My father died at the age of 85 never knowing who his family was and he had been trying since he was a young man. NO ANSWERS. We can not find a birth certificate. We know he was in St Anthonys because we used to go to the yearly Christmas parties they had when we were young children with our Mother and Father. The orphanage say they have no record of him accept when he came in. Not when he left. ??? -- AggieAngel@webtv.net

They had a further 8 children in Geelong - Ellen, William, Mary, Michael, James, Henry, John James and Thomas.
My great grandfather was Hugh and he married Honora Fitzgerald in Geelong on the 8th February, 1875. They had 8 children - Francis (Frank), Alfred John, Maude Gertrude (Mrs Dzrragh), Hugh Jas, Wiliam Oswald, Thomas Henry, Margret and Everline Clare (Mrs F Stinton). Francis (Frank) died in New Zealand, Thomas Henry died in Bundaberg, Qld - all other children died in Geelong.
I would like to hear from any relatives of any of the above people in Geelong, Victoria or any state in Australia.

fyrewalker@ec.rr.com Edward McMANUS born abt. 1815 in Ireland and was a Tailor. He and his family are listed in the 1850 Montgomery Co. AL Federal Census page 132 Family 1039 Wif Margaret was 38 born in Ireland. B. abt 1812 Son J.J. b. abt. 1834 in AL (I think James) Dau E.E. b. abt. 1837 in AL Son Frederick b. abt. 1839 in AL Son Felix b. abt. 1842 in AL Dau Elizabeth b. abt. 1843 in AL Dau Margarite b. abt. 1846 in AL Dau Mary b. abt. 1848 in AL I believe that Edward and wife Margaret died prior to 1860 Census. The following will substantiate my claim. There is a Frederick McMANUS enumerated with Mary MURPHY in the 1860 Montogomery County, AL Census. Also there is listed a Cath, Margaret, and Mary in the 1860 Mobile AL Census at Sisters of Charity Orphan Asylum. The ages are only a year off, but that is not a big deal. This leads credence to my next query. In Ward 4, page 30 of the 1870 Montgomery City, Montgomery Co. AL Federal Census is listed whom I believe 99% to be my great-great grandfather's sister and family: James McMANUS 33 born AL Store Clerk (b. Mary J. 24 born AL Housekeeper James 4 born AL Felix H. 28 born AL Wagon Shop Mary J. 22 born GA (my 2nd g-grandfather's sister) Willitta 6m born AL Catherine 22 born AL Margarett 19 born AL Mary 17 born AL (This leads credence to my earlier post. Since their parents aren't listed, AND girls are in whom I believe is brother's home, I suspect the parents died prior to 1860 Census) CONNER, John M. 27 born CT KELLY, Sarah O. 45 born GA (my 3rd g-grandmother!) I think I found the Felix I've been looking for in the 1880-1881 and the 1891 City Directory. He is listed as a painter in the 1881 Directory and a blacksmith in the 1891 Directory. Hope this helps in researching for someone. --crimsonice@hotmail.com
mtmtom@kynd.com Trying to locate descendents of James McManus, my great-uncle. He is the son of Phillip McManus & his wife, Ellen (Gunn). He was born ~1862 in County Fermanagh, possibly Florence Court. He came to the U.S. in the late 1880-1890's. In the 1900 Census - he was listed as residing in Brooklyn, New York. However, in the 1901 Census of the U.K. and Wales -- he is listed as possibly being in Lee County, MS. His date of death is listed as April 9, 1931 and that he was a private in 22nd infantry.
