J. Fish's line:

descendants of Chauncey Fish of NY (note: Daniel Fish #749 b.1735 MA m. Barbara Bowen of RI... could Chauncey be his grandson?) CHAUNCY FISH was born on Jan. 20th 1800 (according to MO death records on microfilm at St Louis library). Chauncy joined the army in Dec. of 1862. He died in Nov. 1881. He was buried in UNION city cemetery, Union,MO.

Chauncey was a drummer in the War of 1812 according to the pension papers his widow applied for. Chauncey's wife Caroline is buried in Dayton, Nevada (Reno).

In a photocopy of a government "general affidavit" form, filled out in hand writing by "Gardner L. Fish" Bowen's brother it states: he knew Bowen and Ellen, his wife. Its filled out in the attempts to help Ellen be the rightful recipient of Widow's pension of Bowen. In the writing he says specifically states that Bowen was born in "Deerfield County of Oneida, state of New York".

Bowen had two brothers - Albert G. Fish of 4252 Castleman Ave. in St.Louis, Mo. and Gardner L. Fish of Alameda, CA. Gardner Fish was born 5/6/1826.

Copies of Bowen's military papers show that HE claimed to be 30 y.o.a. when he joined the 40th Missouri Inf. Vol. at Benton Barracks here in St. Louis, Mo. Bowen got a marriage license to a Ellen (Nellie) E. Hartshorn on Oct.24 1858 or 59 (year is hard to read) in Pike County Illinois. Most likely he'll be in the state of Missouri in 1860.

according to Jim: Bowen left his wife in 1880 and headed west to Kansas then to Texas. He married Ellen E. Hartshorn (certificate shows Pike Co., IL on Oct.24 1858 or 59 hard to read). They settled in Union, Mo. where they had one son name Edward J. Fish, born in Union, Mo. in 1861. Edward J. later married Mary Jane Walker. Edward J. died in 1922 and Mary Jane died in 1890. Edward J. had one son (thats all I know of) his name was Vernon Joseph Fish.

Bowen left his wife Ellen (Nellie) Fish in 1880. The next time he pops up is in Sept 2 1889 in Sedgwick county Kansas applying for his pension. Then he pops up again in July 15 1890 in Tarraut county Texas applying for his pension again. Marries Violet (Annie) Malone in Quanah Texas July 4 1893 and then dead on the 23rd of the same month. The town of Quanah (Hardeman Co) is little town of about 3000 people and is northwest of Wichita Falls on the Texas/Oklahoma border, not quite to Childress on Hwy 287. Ellen Fish is found in St. Louis census in 1890

Bowens ORIGINAL marriage certificate showing that he married a Violet A. Malone on July 4th, 1893. She is the one who shot him on/or about 23 July 1893 (according to the post master in Quanah, Tx.. In her trail, she was let off due to lack of witnesses. The only witness being dead.

Ellen E. Fish (original wife) applying for widow's pension in February of 1903. She died on July 7th 1904 at the age of 67 (listed as FISK not FISH on the microfilm death records). She is buried in Union, Mo (as is her father-in-law, Chauncey Fish).

Edward J. Fish and his wife are buried in Lake Charles Cemetery, St Louis, MO.

At the Washington, Mo. historical society: microfilm of Edward Joseph Fish's obit from May 31 1922. He was a railroad fireman and engineer. His wife was Maryjane (Walker) Fish. She passed away at an early age right after giving birth to Vernon J. Fish. Edward J remarried in1895 to Mamie Elliott. Edward J. had a sister - Cora E. Fish of Chicago, IL.

Next to Chauncey's grave is another stone at least 6 feet high. "GEORGE H. FISH" Sept. 21 1859 to March 1 1885. ????? Bowens BROTHER. On the back of the stone it's written "grandpa's chair is vacant" and makes acknolagement to Chauncy.

Unmarked grave of Edward J. Fish may be next to Chauncey and George. Chauncey was orginal land owner near Union, MO with 139 acres. The land was shifted back and forth between Chauncy and this George. This George died 3/1/1885, thats about four years after Chauncy. On the stone is George H. Fish, but halfway up the tall stone is the big initial B (?).

Benjamin Fish and Keziah Round's supposed son, Isaac Fish born 1798
in Savoy Center, Berkshire Co, MA.

The Beekman Patent book points to an Isaac born 1798, but no proof he's the
one who married Arnida/Almeda/Armeda Mead, probably in Essex Co, NY.

from the Biographical History, La Crosse, Monroe, Juneau Co, WI.
Isaac died at age 74 in Tomah, WI. He may have lived with his son
Isaac Henry (called Henry). Almeda was living with their daughter
Maryetta Bigelow in 1860 --maybe that Isaac and Henry were in WI by
1860. Henry is listed in the Bio history as a pioneer of Tomah.

The marriage date for Isaac and Arnida was told as 1816. The WI
history says they had 16 children, 14 grew to adulthood.
children:
1. Horace, lived in Tioga Co, PA
2. Timothy, b. Dec 15, 1817, d. Oct 19, 1895, m. Esther Spangler,
lived in Warren's Mills, Monroe, WI per Bio History
3. Marietta/Maryetta, b. Dec 18, 1818, d. bef. 1892 (Arnida was living
with Maryetta at the time of her death), m. John W. Bigelow 1842
4. James b. 1822. Per information in the 1850 census, he may have married
Elizabeth, age 22, born NY, and had dau Jane, age 1
5. Thankful. The 1875 NY statecensus shows Almida Fish, 74, widow, born VT as
a boarder in the household of Thankful Acome, widow, age 53. Also listed
were Charles 27, Jennie 22, Edgar 21 and John 9, all with name Acome.
Found birth entries on Essex Co wen site for Laura Ann Acomb 1848 and Charles
Acome 1848 (may have written wrong year for one)
both children of John and Thankful of Moriah. Guessing that
   Thankful Acome was Arnida's daughter
6. Elizabeth born about 1828
7. Maria--was she the Maria Fish who married Smith Hodgson Oct 26, 1848,
    listed marr.htm@bestweb.net
8. Isaac Henry, called Henry, born Feb 19, 1827, died May 20, 1901 Tomah,
Monroe, WI, married Lucinda L. Bigelow July 29, 1850. children.
9. Otis,, maried Catherien Robinson in Kenosha, WI, he died WI
10. Jamison
11. George, died MN--a George Fish married Mary McGinnis and there is an entry
in the 1875 NY state census for George Fish, 28, Mary M, 25, wife and
children Adny 9, Esg H (son) 4 and Almira 2 1/2. Was this the same George?
12. Delia
13. Charles, of PA
14. Addison Potter, born Mar 16, 1836, died after 1873 Clearfield, WI, married
Mary Elizabeth Robinson. Private in 49th Division, WI (not sure if this
    refers to Civil War )
15. Edgar born 1847, of PA

Elbert Issac Fish's (my line) birth cert states birth in New York (presumably
Lancaster) in 1855. Lewis is older (1845) and census states birth in New York
State (again, presumably Lancaster). 1870 Michigan Census shows David and
family in St. Joseph County, MI. Same census lists Charles and James as '11
yrs old'. Depending on when the exact date of the census was and their
respective birthdays, they would have been born in 1858 or 1859. That same
census states birthplace as 'Iowa'. So, the whole family moved from western NY
sometime between 1855 and 1858/9. Then moved on to Michigan sometime between
1858/9 and 1870, most likely post Civil War. Cemetery records indicate David
Samuel Fish was a vet, but what branch or what campaigns is unkown. Theroy
suggests cavalry, becasue Iowa in the 1850-1870's saw a lot of indian
skirmishes.

In 1902, at the time of Clara's death, the three children listed as 'attending
the funeral from Chicago' were James, Charles, and Harriet. Lewis was reported
to be living in Thompson, Michigan.

Nella and Lloyd died childless.

Elbert Claude Fish moved out to Port Angeles, Washington around 1908 to 1910.
