Information on the Norwegian Church:
"Den Norske Kirke" = The Norwegian Church; is a state church, and its
clergy are senior officials. The country is divided into 10 bishoprics and
the church is governed or guided by a Church Council or Consistory.
"Bispedømme" = bishopric. A ecclesiastical district of administration which
comprises all parishes (prestegjeld) within a geographical area. Headed by
a bishop.
"Prestegjeld" = parish *). A ecclesiastical district of administration
which comprises two or more sub-parishes ("sogn"), headed by a rector.
"Sogn" = parish *) (i.e. sub-parish). A ecclesiastical district of
administration, headed by a curate.
"Sogneprest" (or "sokneprest") = rector.
A rector is the head of a parish (prestegjeld) and a senior official
(subordinated a bishop).
"Kapellan" = curate. The head of a sub-parish (sogn).
*) Be aware of that the words "Prestegjeld" and "Sogn" both are translated
by the word "parish".
