Delgobe's WECKHORST

UNDER CONSTRUCTION

DELGOBE

Over 100 years ago, various Norwegian family histories/pedigrees were compiled by the French-Norwegian genealogist Charles Antoine Delgobe (1844-1916). His handwriting can be very hard to decifer. The pedigree, together with other information on the Weckhorst family is held by the Public Record Office of Norway in Oslo. Many of the Weckhorst descendants now have copies of this pedigree (xeroxed copies).

HLW has double-checked all of his (HLW's) sources (where from most of the 'older' Weckhorst information in these pages comes). In some cases Delgobe's information is inaccurate. Therefore, while the entire xerox is tackled herein, only the verified information has migrated over to the family pages.

(the surname 'Clu' is actually unreadable)
+ 1792 or 1793

(gammel dansk navn ifl. Fritzner)
+ /4 33 af en fransk engrevet Slægt (?)
(i.e. Old Danish name iaw J. Fritzner)
+ April '33 of a French counts family(?)
Notes:
  • "kbhv" is an abbreviation for (the norwegian for) 'Copenhagen'
  • Thus the Weckhorst married to Anna Gelskirchen is the father of Johann Friedrich
  • From this pedigree we may assume that the surname of Johan Friedrich's father was spelled "Weghorst".
  • Johan Fritzner (1812-93) was a well-known Norwegian linguist and theologian.
  • Mundt was a silk mercer and jeweller in Copenhagen, born in Hamburg. HLW has traced Mundt's lineage back to 1540 in Moelln, Lauenburg in Germany.
  • Concerning the two wives of Johan Friedrichs father: There is no information about the parents of his first wife: Anna Magd.Gelskirchen. She is most probably the mother of Johan Friedrich Weckhorst. As for his second wife, the only information given was that she was the stephdaughter of Jodochus Henrik Mundt, and that they were married in Copenhagen, Denmark.
  • According to Delgobe, Johan Friedrich was married twice: his first wife was Anne Cathrine Clu and the second wife was Caroline Elisabeth Giese. However, in the Norwegian census 1801 a Anne Christine Kiønig, born 1852, was registered as his wife. And according to the church register of Fredrikstad, she died October 6th, 1806, - the burial found place "in the churchyard of the town October 11th, her age was 52 years."

  • Delgobe lists two military dates for Gustav Adolf W. includes 2 additional dates : "Lieutenant May 1808" and "customs officer 1835". But HLW found that according to Gustav Adolph's military record he was appointed a 2nd Lieutenant June 20, 1808.

Under Gustav Adolph Frederik is the note "Styrmand"? Right. He was a "styrmand" (i.e. mate). He sailed as a mate for several years before he in 1885 settled in Bamble. They moved to Notodden in 1906.
