Error Received:
I received the following error after allowing updates to
Norton Anti-virus in July 2005:
The connection to the server has failed.
Protocol: POP3, Port: 110,
Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10065,
Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
not only did my email not work, but advanced web connections
(secure connections) and ftp functions also did not work
tried
using advice garnered from various sources including searching
on the error code in Google, I tried a variety of solutions
w/o success:
- tried re-entered email user name and password etc.
- tried recreating email account from scratch
- tried refering to Norton site for help and found references
to changing email to be compatible with Norton BUT when those
pages were selected, they no longer contained the promised info
but a disclaimer from Norton promising not to support old versions
of software (note: it was the new downloads-- July 2005-- that crashed
my email, NOT the CD-ROMs of Norton Antivirus I'd purchased.
- tried turning Norton firewall & anti-virus OFF
SUCCESS!!!
I ended up uninstalling Norton antivirus entirely and BINGO!
All probelms solved! I have not (to date) re-installed my CD-ROMs
containing good Norton, but do not anticipate having problems with
them as they never gave me trouble before.
