without due credit, often misquoted-- in newspapers and periodicals
and as separate prints in many forms, from leaflet to illustrated
folio and illuminated broadsheet.  HE made upward of
five hundred other contributions in prose and verse to various
periodicals.  While in the traction service he contributed professional
papers to the Amer. Acad. of Polit. and Social Science
and to electric traction journals.  After retiring in 1923 he wrote
for his family (not for publication) some thousand pages of
memories of childhood and youth.  Inspired by attending the half-century
reunion of his class at West Point in 1931, he wrote (but
not for publication) some fifteen hundred pages, "Memories of
west Point, 1877-81", which he shared with the surviving members
of faculty and classes of 1878, '79, '80, and '81 by passing
copies about among them.
  On Sept. 22, 1881, he m. Mary Gertrude Cameron, dau. of
Dwight Foster and Fannie elizabeth (Norris) Cameron of Chicago,
who was b. July 28, 1859, and d. May 28, 1939, ay Western
Springs.

was b. June 26, 1890, at Chicago. She attended Western College
for Women at Oxford, Ohio, 1910-11; grad. from Amer. Conservatory
of Music (Chicago) B.M.E. 1934, and School of the
Art Institute (Chicago) B.A.E. 1936. She was supervisor of
music and art, Las Animas, Colo., 1921-22; Galva, Ill., 1923-24;
Erie Co, Ohio (27 public schools), 1927-28.  On Nov 7, 1924,
she m. William Bailey PEabody, son of Lionel Henry and Mary
Augusta Ward (Gifford) Peabody of Portsmouth, RI, who was 
b. Dec 23, 1879. No children.

of Greek and Latin, dau. of (203) Job and Anne Elizabeth (Peabody)
Fish, was b. Jan 15, 1858, at Berlin Heights, Erie Co.,
Ohio; d. June 19, 1916, at Cleveland, Ohio.  Grad. B.A. Oberlin
College 1883, and gave the annual Greek Oration in her Junior
yeaar. She taught district school, summers of 1873 and 1875; also
Greek and Latin in High School, Greenville, Mich., 1883-85, and
1897-98.  She gave private lessons in Greek, Latin and mathematics,
1880-1916. Ill health prevented her continuing as a
teacher in public schools. She was engaged in raising funds in
Cleveland for public charities and for Woman's Hospital, 1900-16.

in Irvington, Ill., 1887-88; and in private schools of Reading,
Pa., 1888-89 and Hollidaysburg, Pa., 1889-91; also in Walnut
Lane Preparatory School for Girls, Germantown, Pa., 1892-1907

son of (203) Job and Anne Elizabeth (Peabody) Fish, was b.
May 2, 1867, at Colon, Sst Joseph Co., Mich.; d. June 2, 1922, at
Buffalo, NY.  BA Oberlin, 1888; was distinguished in Latin
and Greek, and also prominent in teniis and baseball.  He was
a great reader, and especially interested in folks; in later life
read in Spanish, Italian and Swedish many tales and novels of
family and community life in the corresponding countries.  He
was with the Crane Elevator Co., Chicago, 1888-99, and thereafter
with the Otis Elevator Co. (which had acquired the business
of the former company), as follows: supt. of the Chicago
plant, 1899-1904, and of the Yonkers, NY, plant, 1904-09;
manager of the Chicago plant, 1909-14, and of the Buffalo plant,
1914-18; and general manager of workd, with office in New York
City, 1918-21.
  On Sept 18, 1890, he m. Ruth Booth Hall, dau. of Theodore
and Lucy M. (Pierce) Hall of Ashtabula, Ohio, who was b. Jan
18, 1866, and d. Dec 1929. His only son, (230) Julian Lounsbury12
Fish, was b. Jan 13, 1893.

230 JULIAN LOUNSBURY12 FISH, B.S. (Job11, Job10, Elias9, Job8,

only child of (218) Job and Ruth Booth (Hall) Fish, was b.
Jan 13, 1893, at Ashtabula, Ohio.  Grad. from La Grange, IL,
High School in 1911, and from Univ. of IL in 1915 with degree
of B.S. (in Agriculture).  He was a member of the track team in
both high school and University. He has been with the purchasing
department of Otis Elevator Co. in New York City since 1916.
  On June 19, 1916, he m. Marguerite, dau. of William Irving
and edith (Miller) Parmelee of Buffalo, who was b. June 2, 1892,
and had: (230 1/2) Ruth Frances13 Parmelee, b. Feb 13, 1920.

219 JOHN CHARLES LOUNSBURY11 FISH, C.E. (Job10, Elias9,

John1), engineer, teacher, author; of Stanford Univ., son of
(203) Job and Anne Elizabeth (Peabody) Fish, was b. June 3,
1870, near Berline Heights, Erie Co., Ohio; studied Greek and
Latin in Oberlin Academy two terms, 1886; graduated from
Cornell Univ., C.E., 1892.  He contributed prose and verse to

"Cornell era"; and in senior year was chief engineer of Cornell
Univ. Surveys of the Lakes of Central New York.
  He was instructor in civil engineering in Cornell 1892-93, and
in Stanford Univ., 1893-94.  He continued at Stanford, as follows:
assistant prof. 1894-98; assoc. prof. 1898-1909 (on leave
1905-09); prof. of railroad engineering 1909-25; prof. of civil
engineering 1925-35; executive head, civil engineering department
1928-35; and retired as emeritus prof. of civil engineering
1935.  His most distinguished pupil was Hon. Herbert Hoover,
afterwards president of the United States.  He was a member of
faculty baseball nine, 1894-1905.
  He is a member of Alpha Tau Omega (college fraternity),
Sigma Xi (scientific honor society); honorary member of Sigma
Delta Pi (Spanish honor Society of America); and a life member
of Amer. Soc. of Civil Engineers, and Amer. Railway Engineering
Asso.
  He is author of the following books: "Lettering of Working
drawings," 1894; "Linear Drawing and Lettering," 1901; "Descriptive
Geometry," 1903; "Coordinates of Plane Surveying,"
1909; "Earthwork Haul and Overhaul," 1913; "Engineering
Economics," 1915 (2nd edition 1923), for which he was awarded
the Fuertes Gold Method for Original Research in 1915 by Cornell
Univ. He is co-author of "Technic of Surveying Instruments
and Methods" (with Walter L. Webb), 1917; "The Engineering
Profession" (with Theodore J. Hoover), 1941.
  He was assistant to city engineer, Sandusky, Ohio, 1886-88;
assistant engineer on construction of Sandusky and Columbus
Short-Line R.R., 1891; recorder, U.S. Coast and Geodetic
Survey, primary triangulation, Mts. San Jacinto and Santiago,
Calif., 1899; field engineer, U.S. Geolog. Survey, exploratory
surveys for reservoir and dam sites, Monterey Co., Calif, 1900;
resident engineer, 1905-07; and division engineer, 1907-09, L.S.
& M.S. Railway (New York Central Line West), on construction
of Franklin & Clearfield, Pa., Extension.
  He was president of the board of health, Palo Alto, CAlif.,
1901-05; member of board of public safety, Palo Alto, 1909-24.
  By way of recreation he played daily tennis 1912-27, and since
1925 has closed each day with an hour or so of Spanish authors.
  On July 31, 1894, at La Porte, Ind., he m. Ethelwyn Rebecca
Slaght, dau. of Nathaniel and Frances Cecilia (Wallace) Slaght
of Greenville, Montcalm Co., Mich., who was b. Feb 23, 1867.

son of (219) John Charles L. and Ethelwyn Rebecca (Slaght)
Fish, was b. dec. 30, 1899, at San Francisco, CA. Grad. from
Palo Alto High School, 1917, from Stanford Univ., 1921, with
degree of A.B. (in civil engineering). He is a member of Delta
Upsilon Fraternity and of Tau Beta Pi (honor engineering
society). He played tennis in college and later was champion of
tennis players of Standard Oil Co. of calif. His military service
was in the R.O.T.C. at Stanford, Sep- Dec., 1918.
  He has been with the Standard Oil Co. of Calif. since 1921, as
follows: in engineering Dept, 1921-22; in manufacturing dept.,
as chairman of standards and appropriations committees, member
of personnel and manufacturing committees, and manager
of organization and cost control divison, 1922-35; member of
company wage and salary committee, 1936-37; member of department
on organization since 1935.  During 1939-40 he was
also research associate, Graduate School of Business, Stanford
Univ.
  Upon request of Maj. Gen. Lucius D. Clay, deputy of the U.
S. Control Council for Germany, he was loaned to the War Department
June 1, 1945, for a period of six months to help develop
organizational planning in occupied Germany for the guidance
of the U.S. Army both in military government and civil administration.
In his letter to the president of Standard of California
the General wrote: "In view of Mr. Fish's particular and
outstanding qualifications, I would greatly appreciate the loan
of his services."
  On June 8, 1922, at San Francisco, he m. Roberta Hellmann,
who was b. Aug 30, 1899, dau. of George and Roberta (Wright)
Hellmann of Palo Alto, and had: (232 1/2) John Lounsbury13, b.

attendedn Stanford Univ.  In training as nurse in Univ. of Calif.
Hospital, 1923-24, and in Stanford Hospital in San Francisco,
1924-26, grad. 1926. She was champion in tennis tournament of
Girls' Schools of Northern Calif.  At Stanford she was a member
of women's tennis team and swimming team, of Delta Gamma
