and nursed for several of the leading physicians of the
city.  On June 26, 1902, she m. Harry Hyde Yerington of Los
angeles, who was b.Sep 15, 1858, at Circleville, Ohio.  He
represented Craig, Stewart & Co. for many years on the road,
and was later made manager.  Later he became a partner in a
large Los Angeles mercantile house, and for many years he was
secretary of the Wholesale Grocers Association of Los Angeles.
He erected a large aprtment house on Alvardo St., to which
he retired. He d. Feb 24, 1943, age 85.

2999 ELI WILLIS11 FISH (Charles10, Eli9, Libbeus87,
John6, John5, Stephen4), only son of (2994) Charles and Frances
(Potter) Fish, was b. at Batavia, N.Y., July 1, 1876, and accompanied
his parents in Feb. 1888 to California, where for many
years he has been auditor for th Holmes Supply Co., a supply
house for the Sante Fe Railroad Lines. On Oct. 16, 1903, he m.
Selma Pearson, who was b. Feb 1, 1879, in Sweden and while
still in her teens came to America with two younger sisters,
making her own way here.

2997 LOUISE MARY10 (FISH) STRONG (Eli9, Libbeus87,
John6, John5, Stephen4), youngest dau. of (2976) Eli H. and
Elizabeth (Rosecrans) Fish, was b. at Batavia, N.Y., Feb 8,
1854; d. there Oct 6, 1940, age 86.  She was the last of her generation,
and well informed on the early history of New York state.
As to Batavia, she related that her brother Charles conducted
a hat store where C.L.Carr store now is, also that her grandfather,
Libbeus, purchased of the Iroquois Indians Confederacy
in 1804 the land now covered by the Holland Land Purchase Bldg.
  She m. Feb 8, 1888, Sylvester Strong, who was b.Sept 6,
1855, and they had (3002) John Harold11 Strong, b. at Elba,
Mar 17, 1894, d.July 1918.

2980 MARY ANGELINE9 (FISH) RANDALL (Libbeus87,
John6, John5, Stephen4), dau of (2957) Libbeus and Polly (Holcomb)
Fish, was b.Aug 4, 1816; d.Dec 24, 1894, at 78; m. Apr
7, 1847, Ira M. Randall, who d. Mar 31, 1891.

2981 CHARLES9 FISH (Libbeus87, John6, John5,  Stephen4),
son of (2957) Libbeus and Polly (Holcomb) Fish, was b. Oct 24,
1818; d. at Martinez, Calif.; m.Sept 12, 1876, Mary Elizabeth
Grimes, dau. of William Grimes who was b. in Massachusetts,
May 27, 1810, and Elizabeth McCullough, who was b. at Seneca,
N.Y., Aug 6, 1806, dau. of John McCullough of Seneca.  Her
uncle was a soldier in the Revolution, and his battered sword is
preserved as a relic in the Smithsonian Institute, Washington,
D.C.
   Charles Fish was a clerk at Caryville, N.Y., at $6.00 a month
and board, then clerked in his brother's store (J.W. Fish) and Gallatin,
Mass. also managed the store of Fish & Johnson there
for a time.  He then went with W.D. Larkin into a mercantile
business at Monticello, Miss., later became sole owner. In 1853
he went to California; clerked for a time at San Francisco, and in
1854 became manager of the Lathrop & Walrath warehouse at
Martinez, later purchasing a half interest in the business.

2984 LAFAYETTE IRVING9 FISH (Libbeus87, John6, John5,
Stephen4), youngest son of (2957) Libbeus and Polly (Holcomb)
Fish, was b. at Batavia, N.Y., Oct 7, 1824.  He attended Ernst's
School for Boys from 1839 to 1841, when he went with his father
to Jackson, Mich., where two years later he entered the employ
of the C.W. Ponney merchandizing business, and remained until
1849, except for a short time when he clerked for his brother
Charles in Mississippi.
  In 1849 he left for California, to seek his fortune.  At Marysville,
along with his brother, J.W., he joined a company to mine gold.
They built a store and log hotel on the Feather River, and he
kept the store mostof the time; finally bought out the rest of the
company and the mdse. firm became Fish & Lathrop.  They also
formed a company to purchase sheep in the East and drive them
to California for sale.  In 1855 Lathrop left the partnership, and
Lafayette's brother Charles having arrived from the South, a
new firm of L.I. & C Fish was formed.  Lafayette was one of the
first successful farmers of California. In 1873 he united with
others to form a bank at Martinez, of which he was the first
president.  In 1878  he entered the grain business with Blum &
Bladwin; retiring in 1884.

  He m. in 1881, Frances L. Webster, and had: (2984a) Irving
Webster10, b.1882; and had (2984b) Annie Holcomb, b.1886.

2958 PHILOTHETA8 (FISH) GIDDINGS (Josiah7, John6, John5,
Stephen4), dau. of (2916) col. Josiah and Elizabeth (HAzelton)
fish, was b. Oct 3, 1783; d. Dec 25, 1869, at 86.  When she was
thirteen, in 1796, her father moved to a clearing near Rochester,
N.Y.  Her mother died at Rochester the following year, and at
18 she went to Canawagus, and worked one year, and there she
met Elisha Giddings, whom she m. Sept 11, 1803.  He was a
brother of Joshua Giddings.  In Mar. 1805 they were one of the
first three families to arrive at Hartford, in Wayne Co., in the
new Ohio country, where she remained to sixty-two years, until
her death at 86.

N.Y., Sep 12, 1842; m. Dec 4, 1811, Mary Pierce, who was b.
at Athol, Mass., Mar 5, 1794, and d. at Dover, Ill., Nov 4, 1859.

29611 ELIJAH STANTON8 FISH (Josiah7, John6, John5, Stephen4),
son of (2916) Col. Josiah and Elizabeth (Hazelton) Fish, was b.
at Athol, Mass., Feb 11, 1791; d. at Bloomfield, Mich., Feb 28,
1861.  In 1798 elijah was sent to live with his mother's sister,
wife of Gen. Samuel Fletcher of Townsend, VT, and he rode
on horseback 500 miles behind his uncle.  At eighteen he set out
to make is way in the world and found work with a gardener
in Boston.  Afterone yearhe returned to Vermont with his savings,
and before the close of the War of 1812 made his way back
to his folks near Rochester, N.Y., where he was employed as an
army teamster.  He was present at the Battle of Chippewa
Plains.  In 1814 he went to Ogden, Mich., where he met Fanny
Spencer, whom he m. Oct 22, 1815.  She d. at Ovid, Mich., Feb
21, 1872.

3021 HENRY SPENCER9 FISH (Elijah8, Josiah7, John6, John5,
Stephen4), son of (2961) Elijah and Fanny (Spencer) Fish, was b.
Feb. 20, 1818; m. Aug 1, 1843, at Litchfield, Conn., Sarah Jane
Bronson.  He enlisted in the 123rd N.Y. Inf., and d. in a military
hospital, Dec 8, 1863.

3023 EDMUND9 FISH, A.B. (Elijah8, Josiah7, John6, John5,
Stephen4), son of (2961) Elijah S. and Fanny (Spencer) Fish, was
b. Jan 1, 1824, at Bloomfield, Mich.  He attended Western Reserve
College, and taught school, 1840-41. In 1843 he entered
Univ. of Mich., grad. 1845.  He m. at Kalamazoo, Mich., Mar.
17,1851, Mary Barrett. In 1854 he went to Jackson, Mich.;
attended the "Convention under the Oaks" (where the Repulbican
Party was organized and named, on July 6, 1854).  In 1854
he went on to the Kansas Territory, where in the fall of 1857 he
entertained John Brown in his home.  After 1874 he lived at
Hillsboro, IL.

(3035) Cornelius Emmelius, b. July 3, 1857.  Henry m. Clara
Melissa Dixon, and had: (3034a) Anna11, (3034b) Stella, and

2963 JOHN PHELPS8 FISH (Josiah7, John6, John5, Stephen4), son
of (2916) Josiah and Zeruiah (Holcomb) Fish, was b. at Rochester,
N.Y., Feb 24, 1800; d. Nov 2, 1862, at Chicago, IL; m. Jan
24, 1829, Sarah King.  He is said to have been the first white
child born at Rochester, N.Y.
