What is Radix?

Radix is an educational process in personal growth. Radix work promotes the integration of mind and body helping us to experience our real self. It combines elements of teaching, psychological processes, physical exercises, and body awareness which together facilitate personal insight and growth.

The goal of Radix work is to experience and integrate feelings. Through a number of techniques and processes the body may be re-owned. As practitioners we use a non-invasive approach, respectful of every individual's development of feelings. Each person is supported in taking healthy control over his or her own life, learning how to construct and maintain boundaries and sustain a higher level of energy.

Where did Radix come from?

Radix education is rooted in the pioneering work of Wilhelm Reich M. D. During the first half of this century, Reich discovered relationships between body processes and emotional functioning that proved seminal for the holistic movement that was to follow. He was ahead of his time in his work on the relationship between emotional stagnation and degenerative disease, and his work on healthy sexual functioning was revolutionary. At the root of this emotional stagnation was what Reich called muscular armor.

Muscular armor refers to chronic tension in the musculature which blocks the natural flow of feelings/emotions through the body. Reich found that direct work on the client's musculature and breathing helped individuals to allow and experience blocked emotions. He developed interventions to free the natural emotional expressiveness of the body by loosening the muscular contractions. This allows long-held feelings to flow through the body and leaves the person feeling more alive and better able to establish contact with themselves and with others.

In the early 60's, Charles Kelley Ph.D. contributed to the development of Reich's theories. He developed group and individual growth techniques based on Reich's conceptual model. In particular, he advanced our understanding of the relationship between vision and feeling. Radix has grown into an effective tool for uncovering the natural expression and creative energy that are blocked by rigidity and stagnation.
